The Himalaya Drug Company is planning to tap overseas market in a big way. Saket Gore, business head, consumer products division, Himalaya Drug Company on a short visit to the city told FE that the company has presence in about 70 countries including the US, Malaysia, Singapore, Middle East and Switzerland and its export market contributes to about 20% of its total turnover.

He said the company is trying to achieve 50% of total turnover from overseas sales of its modern ayurveda products. Overall, the Himalaya’s growth rate is 15% in both domestic and overseas markets.

He said the Himalaya products can be found in Cayman Islands, Costa Rica Kenya, Latvia, Mongolia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Slovak Republic, Trinidad and Uzbekistan. The company plans to cover 84 countries by the year- end.

In north, the company is planning to open several outlets in response to the tremendous demand. The regions namely Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal have given positive response driven by huge demand.

About the company products, Gore said that Himalaya’s Sunscreen lotion has a unique formulation for which it has filed a global patent. Its hair loss cream is also another breakthrough product for which it has filed an international patent. Its signature product, Liv. 52, is one of the world’s top selling medicine and is registered as a ‘pharmaceutical specialty’ in Switzerland.
