The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam would implement the Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme-II (APDRP) of the Centre with a view to streamline the power distribution system and bring down the aggregated technical and commercial (AT&C) losses in the selected project areas to 15% or below.
Giving details, a spokesman of the Nigam said it has been decided to implement the scheme in Panipat and Yamuna Nagar towns in the first phase. Work under the scheme would be executed at an estimated cost of Rs 165 crore.
The spokesman for the Nigam said here on Wednesday that the World Bank has assured financial assistance of $70 million and KfW (Germany) would provide 70 million euros to implement the scheme.
This assistance has been obtained through the power ministry. It would be implemented in Panipat City, Panipat Sub-Urban, Yamuna Nagar, Jagadhari City and Jagadhari sub-urban divisions under which the electricity will be supplied through high voltage distribution system (HVDS), segregation of industrial load and Automatic Meter Management (AMM) of 11 KV feeders would be ensured.
He said that the works would be executed through World Bank financial assistance for Panipat district and through KfW for Yamuna Nagar district. The Nigam has targeted to implement the scheme at all district headquarters in the first phase. Subsequently, it will be implemented in operation sub-division level town under the jurisdiction of the Nigam.
The spokesman informed that the Centre would convert 50% of the total investment on the scheme as grant on achieving reduction of AT&C losses to the level of 15% in the selected project areas. The Nigam has also targeted to bring down the losses to 16% (overall) during the 11th Plan period.
He also said the areas of operation zone Panchkula including Panchkula, Ambala, Yamuna Nagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal and Karnal would be covered with the financial assistance from KfW, whereas the areas of operation zone Rohtak comprising district Rohtak, Jhajjar, Jind, Sonipat and Panipat would be covered with the financial assistance from the World Bank.
