The legal row over abuse of visas issued to Indian IT workers by US could be sorted out by the process of government level talks, said Som Mittal, president, Nasscom.

Speaking at the emerging out conclave organised by Nasscom on Tuesday he said, ?The visa issues have been subject matter of political rhetoric, but we very much hope that our trade minister Anand Sharma would be discussing the matter with the US government for sorting all the outstanding issues related to visa especially the service visa category,?.

?One should also keep in mind that L1, H1B and B1 visas were envisaged much before when the services like IT were globalised?, he said.

On the alleged abuse of B1 visa by an Indian IT company that has led to a legal battle in US, he said that that jury is still not out. ?Let’s not be a jury over the case that is under trial in federal court of US,? he told FE.

Regarding the status of European Union common work permit for skilled migrant workers like IT, Mittal said the college of commissioners have approved and it has to be passed by the parliaments of the various member countries of the union. The parliament of Brussels have already passed it as a law, he added.
