Gold prices slipped from nearly a four-month high by losing R475 to R28,725 per 10 gm in the national capital on Thursday on profit-selling by stockists at prevailing higher levels amid a weak global trend. Silver also dropped by R640 to R41,620 per kg on lack of buying support from industrial units and coin makers. Gold of 99.9% and 99.5% purity slipped by R475 each to R28,725 and R28,525 per 10 gm, respectively. It had climbed to nearly a four-month high at R29,200 on Wednesday.

Tea production up 4% in June on higher output from WB

India’s tea production increased by 4% to 136.18 million kg in June on higher output in West Bengal, according to government data. Output stood at 131.20 million kg in the same month last year, the Tea Board said in an estimate. In Assam, tea production was up by 2.13% to 74.29 million kg in June from 72.74 million kg in the same month last year. Output in West Bengal increased 17.17% to 34.67 million kg in June from 29.59 million kg a year earlier. Assam and West Bengal are the two major tea-producing states, with their combined output accounting for 82% of output in June. In south India, tea output declined 8.15% in June to 24.47 million kg.
