A day after a girl was allegedly raped in the Godhra Civil Hospital by a sweeper, hospital authorities on Friday said it was consensual sex between the two, even as police said the accused was involved in four such incidents.
Hospital Superintendent L M Chandana said, ?Two of our staffers on duty said when they saw the girl with the accused (Mahesh Ratilal Harijan) in a compromising position, she started screaming to prove her innocence.?
Chandana denied any lapse in security and said, ?We have demanded more security personnel but the state has its own limitations.?
The police maintained there was not adequate security in the hospital and that it was a case of rape. Investigation Officer D B Dabhi said the victim, along with her father, Deepak Sikligar, had come to deliver food in the general ward.
?We found that the accused had switched off lights of the ward, gagged her with a cloth and dragged her to the storeroom. The girl?s hair, pieces of clothes and jewellery were found in the storeroom, which we have sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis,? said Dabhi.
