General Motors is likely to come out with a few more variants or aggressively upgrade features in its flagship multi utility vehicle (MUV) Chevrolet Tavera.
The move is to retain its competitiveness in the MUV segment, where Toyota Innova, Scorpio, Sumo and Safari are crossing swords for a major market share. In addition, by giving facelift to Tavera, the company is eyeing more customers.
?Value addition is definitely a must, otherwise the product fatigue will set in. Any product that exists in the market for a year or so, we bring in some value addition. That?s why in regular intervals we keep on launching special editions to bring in excitement and product freshness,? GM India?s vice-president P Balendran said. ?Similarly in case of Tavera we are working on some upgradations. It means some value additions and value addition in terms of features. At the same time we will be working on the engine as well,? Balendran said.
Currently, Tavera is equally popular in both cab and personal use (white board) segment. In metros like Bangalore and Chennai, Tavera is more known as cab service vehicle transporting employees attached to BPO industry after Toyota phased out its flagship Qualis in February 2005. In fact, 50% of Tavera has been sold as white boards while the remaining vehicles were sold for cab purpose, to the governments and other institutions.
