GSPC Gas Company Ltd (GGL), a Gujarat-based city gas distribution company, has approached the lending arm of World Bank – International Finance Corporation (IFC), to part finance its $140 million gas distribution project, to be implemented across various locations in the state. IFC is exploring a possible cooperation with the company to finance part of this expansion programme, said sources.

Since its inception two years ago, GGL has successfully established operational gas distribution networks in a number of towns and cities across Gujarat to meet demand from industrial, domestic, commer-cial and transport sectors.

GGL lays a steel pipeline network to be supplied via city gate stations from Gujarat State Petronet gas transmission network and to supply anchor industrial clusters and CNG stations. Larger PE networks are then added to supply residential and commercial consumers. The company on March 2008, had laid 119 km-steel pipeline and 1,177 km PE pipeline and had also constructed 16 CNG stations which are operational. In order to construct the gas distribution network in various locations across Gujarat, the company has approached IFC to fund this $140 million project.
