Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday announced a fresh agitation in Singur on September 25. This time, however, it will take place at the BDO office in Singur.
While the Tatas are closely watching the situation, the West Bengal government is reeling under pressure of a possible pull out. Mamata declared that if the state government did not adhere to the agreement signed in the presence of the governor, she would initiate further movement and agitations.
On September 25, Trinamool Congress supporters and TMC-backed Save Farmland Committee will gherao the BDO office to mark the ?Singur Day?. It was on this day two years back that the state government had begun issuing cheques to farmers, who had given their land for the Nano factory. ?On September 25, we will gherao the BDO office, and on the next day we will agitate on the stretch between gate no 1 and gate no 21 of the Nano factory,? said Mamata after a discussion with senior party leaders. She may also hold public rallies in Singur and Kolkata on September 26.
Banerjee also plans to approach Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pratibha Patil to demand the imposition of the Article 355 of the Constitution in Bengal. Mamata said the state government has backtracked on an agreement signed in the presence of the governor.
She accused the Centre of being partial to certain states as far as imposition of the Article 355 was concerned.
