Employees of the Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation, Punjab Financial Corporation, Punjab State Industrial and Export Corporation and Punjab State Tubewell Corporation have geared to strongly oppose the move to close down the public sector corporations.
Taking a cue from reports published in this newspaper that these corporations were likely to be closed down in near future in view of minutes of two recent meetings chaired by principal secretary, industry and commerce, the apex body of the unions Punjab State Cooperative, Boards, Corporations Employees Mahasangh has given a call to oppose the move with all its might.
President of Punjab State Cooperative, Boards, Corporations Mahasangh, and G.S.Oberoi when contacted told FE in his office today that the apex body of employees unions would hold a rally and a dharna on August 23 at Udyog Bhawan. Employees from all the four PSUs and employees of Punjab Markfed, PUNSUP, Land Mortgage Bank will also join the dharna. Jarnail Singh, general secretary of PSIDC Karamchari Union said on Tuesday that employees will fight tool and nail to oppose closure of the the boards and corporations which they had built over the years.
The minutes of the two meetings (copy with FE) held on July 5 and July 10 chaired by AR Talwar, principal secretary, industry and commerce, Punjab confirm that the process for disinvestment of PSIDC, PFC, PSIEC, PSTC has begun. The two meetings were a sequel to the meeting of cabinet sub-committee on disinvestment.
Besides principal secretary, industry and commerce and chairman PSIDC top officers who attended the meeting held on July 10, 2007 suggest “the managing director of PFC to send his observations so that these are brought before the Cabinet sub-committee on disinvestment for appropriate decision”.
