Taking serious note of use of a government helicopter by Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda for a poll-related visit to Jamshedpur, the Election Commission (EC) has issued a showcause notice to Koda for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.

According to the notice, Koda allegedly used his official car and a helicopter for a trip to East Singhbhum in Jamshedpur on August 9 to take part in the filing of the nomination papers of JMM candidate Suman Mahto.

In its notice, the Commission has said that Koda?s actions ?amounted to combining the official visit with poll-relate work? and has sought an explanation from the Jharkhand chief minister by Saturday.

Meanwhile denying the allegations, Koda told a news agency that he is yet to go through the notice.

?I have not violated any model code of conduct and I am yet to see the notice. Let me see it first,? he said.
