The two suicide attacks that ripped through Lahore on Tuesday morning were aimed at creating panic among the people of Pakistan. The new regime should hunt down the perpetrators. And President Musharraf should cooperate with the new government in the fight against the menace.

If incentives work
Sloth, envy, gluttony, greed, lust, wrath and pride were the seven deadly sins. Now, a list of seven new deadly sins features experiments on humans, polluting the environment, causing social injustice, causing poverty, becoming obscenely wealthy, taking drugs, and allowing the poor to become poorer as the rich become richer. And Tamil Nadu had added the ?eighth deadly sin? (Eavesdropper, March 12), which is language pollution. But this tax policy is dealing with it. If fiscal incentives work, why not give tax-offs to people who do not drink, smoke or use drugs?
