Even as rebranding and refurbishment exercises breathe fresh life into the aviation industry in India, most airlines have been facing rough weather for a long time (?The wrong ink?, Nov 28). So, Nacil reporting a loss of over Rs 700 crore is no big surprise. Yet, Nacil can draw appropriate lessons from the Air France-KLM merger, which, bucking the global trend, returned a net profit of $1.09 billion. With a strong network and fleet, and backed up by an agile management, the airline is competently catering to passenger needs through on-time flight services to Asia and North America. Contrast this with Nacil, which is hobbled by a poor network and creaky fleet, and fast losing customer confidence.

Sino realism

No doubt, China has shown realism in its management of public sector enterprises (?China shows the way?, Nov 28). It?s strange that such realism is found lacking in our government. Another factor that has obviously helped China is its ability to keep the yuan down. Can?t we do the same to the rupee?

The secret way

The BCCI has appointed Gary Kirsten as India?s new cricket coach in great secrecy, it transpires. Strange are the ways of India?s cricket board. There never was openness or transparency in any of its dealings, and the search for a new team captain was no exception to this rule.
