Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW) is evaluating the possibility of bringing its driver training programme to India.

The company has organised ?Discover Driving Pleasure?, a two-day signature drive experience, at an airfield in Amby Valley near Pune from November 13 for select customers and car enthusiasts.

Peter Kronschnabl, president, BMW India Private Ltd, said, ?The programme was created to offer a comprehensive driving experience to customers in India and offer them the opportunity to drive a range of BMW vehicles. Instructors who were brought from Singapore and Germany for the event said that BMW in Germany became the first vehicle manufacturer in the world to offer professional driver training in 1977. At present, BMW driver training conducts courses across the globe including Europe, USA, Canada, Asia and South Africa. He said that the company could be looking at the possibility of bringing this programme to India as well.?

The ?Discover Driving Pleasure? programme offered participants three training modules – the X drive, driver training and scenic drive. The modules included off-road driving, hill descent control, exercises in braking techniques, steering and road hazard maneuvering among other techniques. Participants got to try their hands on the BMW 3 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series and the 7 Series.

Kronschnabl said that a majority of the buyers for the company cars were from the North.

?We sold over 500 cars in the north and a 100 vehicles in Chandigarh this year. Mumbai accounts for 30% sales. In South Mumbai, the company is converting a theatre into a dealership to showcase the BMW brand.?

Till date, BMW has invested around Rs 110 crore in India, establishing headquarters in Gurgaon, a central parts warehouse and a production plant in Chennai.
