With the fourth supply lake overflowing on Thursday, corporators demanded a complete rollback of the water cut imposed in the city. The civic administration, however, turned it down saying it is not in a position to lift the cut as yet.

In Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation?s standing committee meeting on Friday, the corporators argued that the cuts should be lifted since the water availability is now sufficient and much better than last year. ?Even after the partial lifting of the cut, some fag end areas are still suffering. Since the water availability is adequate now, the water cut should be lifted,? Shiv Sena corporator Sunil Prabhu said.

However, the BMC maintained that it is not feasible to remove the water cut at this stage. ?Though it has rained well this year, we have to wait till the end of the monsoon which is still more than a month away. At the end of the monsoon, we will take a stock of the situation and if both major lakes ? Upper Vaitarna and Bhatsa?- overflow too by then, we will lift the water cut. But as of now, it would be unwise to lift the cut,? additional municipal commissioner Anil Diggikar said.

Following this, the corporators demanded adjournment of the meeting, protesting against the civic administration?s stand. The issue is slated for another discussion on Saturday in the presence of Mayor Sharddha Jadhav, political group leaders and municipal commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya.
