Three companies including the ship building major ABG Shipyard, Kolkata-based Calcutta Electric Supply Company and Chandigarh-based Surya Pharmaceutical group have emerged as the top bidders for five hydro power projects with a generation potential of 496 mw in Himachal Pradesh.

These companies have pre-qualified for the new term bids for these projects, which were opened recently.

A senior official of Himachal power department told FE that after the approval from the state electricity board the matter will go to the state government and then will be forwarded to the central government. ?The final allotment will be made by the central government. ABG Shipyard has bagged three out of the five projects namely-Rashil (102 mw), Tandi (104 mw) and Bardang (126 mw) and all are located in Lahaul valley at a very high altitude,? said the official.

He added, ?Whereas Calcutta Electric Supply Company outbid the competitors for the 104 mw generation capacity project at Lara Sumta, which is also located in Lahaul valley. Making the highest offer of free power Surya Pharmaceutical bagged the 60 mw Patam project in Spiti valley.?

Talking about the additional free power to be offered by these players over the free power as royalty the official said,

“ABG Shipyard has offered to pay 8.10 % additional power for the Rashil project, 11.10% more power for Tandi project and 10.10% extra power for Bardang project.
