Mahamana Express: The modern upgraded rake of the much talked about Mahamana Express is ready! Boasting of an upgraded interiors across coaches and better facilities for AC-1 class travel, the second rake of the Mahamana Express is currently undergoing trials. The Narendra Modi government had in 2016 unveiled the first rake of the Mahamana Express, as part of Indian Railways' Model Rake Project. Here's a sneak peek into the new Mahamana Express:

The Mahamana Express was initially conceptualised as a train that has been made by modifying seven types of coaches. The model rakes that have been developed are a "refurbished and re-adapted" version of seven types of coaches which have been in use by Indian Railways for the past 10-12 years.

The new rake has one 1st-AC coach, two 2nd-AC coaches, 8 sleeper-class coaches, 4 general class coaches, 2 SLRDs and 1 pantry car.

As stated earlier, the new Mahamana Express has upgraded interiors. Cushioned luggage racks have been provided in the General Sitting (non-AC) coaches.

The ladder for climbing on to the upper berths has been redesigned. The coaches now have 3-peg coat hooks instead of single-peg coat hooks.

The texture of rexene used in Mahamana Express has been changed to prevent dust ingress.

In order to enhance passenger comfort, Mahamana Express has more charging points have been provided. All coaches have passenger information systems and toilet occupancy indicators.

The snack tray mounting in the middle of the lower berth has been improved and strengthened.

The toilet in the AC-1st class coach of the new Mahamana Express has a baby seater and a full-size mirror. The toilet also has a bathing shower.

According to Bhopal's coach rehabilitation workshop, in the new Mahamana Express, the toilet module has been changed as per ICF design. This has been done to eliminate the problem of water logging. The mounting arrangement of the toilet mirror has also been changed to prevent breakage. The toilets in Mahamana Express have superior quality toilet fittings and odour control systems.

In line with Indian Railways' vision to make tracks defecation free, bio-toilets have been fitted in the coaches. Big mirrors and a platform-washbasin have been installed to allow passengers to keep their amenities.

LED Lights has been provided with a new specification. Bigger size window glass of 'Body Side Door' has been provided in all non-AC coaches except SLRD coaches.

Each coach of the Mahamana Express has fire extinguishers and superior material has been used for panels in terms of toxicity index and fire retardation.

The pantry car has an electrically-operated chimney.

There is a clear coat on the exterior of the train to prevent dislodging of stickers.
