The families of a man and his cousin, who died in a road mishap involving a rashly-driven truck in Uttar Pradesh three years ago, have been awarded a total compensation of over Rs 1.03 crore by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here.
The MACT directed the New India Assurance Company Ltd, with which the offending vehicle was insured, to pay a sum of Rs 1,03,94,781 as compensation out of which Rs 62,77,120 would be given to the wife, two children and parents of deceased Jitender Singh Negi and Rs 41,17,661 to the wife, three children and mother of deceased Virender Singh Negi.

Jitender's wife, a resident of Alipur here, said her husband was in a government job and was earning over Rs 23,000 per month along with other perks. Kishan Ganj resident Virender was working as a driver in Northern Railway and was earning over Rs 41,000 per month.
