: India’s first urbanisation varsity likely in Bangalore
The Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) has announced its plans to establish the country’s ‘first’ university exclusively devoted to urbanisation and settlement issues. IIHS is founded by a group of leading entrepreneurs, intellectuals and professionals including Nandan Nilekani, Shirish Patel, Rakesh Mohan, Keshub Mahindra, Deepak Parekh, Deepak Satwalekar and Jamshyd Godrej. The mother campus of the privately-funded university is likely to be set up in Bangalore.
Canadian biz school partners with SP Jain School
Schulich School of Business (SSB) of York University in Canada has partnered with SP Jain Business School to launch its programme. The move comes against the backdrop of the Foreign Educational Institutions Bill to be tabled in Budget Session of Parliament. “We partnered with SP Jain Business school hoping that we could have our own campus soon once the Bill gets cleared soon,” Dezso J Horvath, chair in strategic management at the Schulich School of Business, said.
Select Ignou courses to be recognised by Unesco
Certain courses of Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) will be recognised by Unesco. The university and Unesco signed an agreement of cooperation (AoC) for identifying special programmes for co-branding. The agreement of cooperation was signed during the visit of Unesco director-general Irina Bokova to the university. Both Ignou and Unesco will develop cooperation through academic exchange and collaboration for advancement of quality education and training, the university said. As per the AoC, both sides will collaborate in research and training in the fields of journalism and media studies, science education, teacher training and ICT-enhanced distance learning.
Six IITs figure in list of top ten technology institutes
Six among the top ten technology institutes in the country are all IITs, according to the fifth IDC-Dataquest T-School 2009 survey of 111 engineering colleges across the country. The top slot is occupied by the IIT-Kharagpur, followed by IIT-Delhi, IIT-Madras, IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Roorkee and IIT-Guwahati. IIT-Bombay did not participate in the survey. The seventh best institute of is IIIT, Hyderabad followed by BITS Pilani.
