Three jawans of the Indian Army fell off a chopper after the rope slipped off during slithering operations being conducted as part of the rehearsal for Army Day on January 15. The good news is that the Indian Army has confirmed that none of the three soldiers suffered any serious injuries.

A video going viral on social media shows soldiers sliding down the rope that is seen attached to the helicopter. Just as the third soldier begins his descent, the rope can be seen slipping off the chopper resulting in the free fall.

According to reports, the mishap occurred on January 9 in the national capital after the slithering boom that was supposed to hold the rope broke off from the Advanced Light Helicopter during the drill, resulting in the accident.

The rehearsal was being held for the upcoming Army Day on January 15 that the Indian Army holds in the honour of Lieutenant General KM Kariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. The ceremony is held annually on this day since 1949.

The Army Day sees all command headquarters of the Army observe this day in Lt Gen Kariappa’s honour. Through special parades and display of weapons, the Army shows off its might to the world and also encourages the youth to join the force.
