An Indian national lost his life in an air tragedy in Canada over the week. The deceased individual has since been identified as 27-year-old Gautam Santhosh.

Two were people on board the small plane, including the 27-year-old passenger and the 54-year-old pilot, according to Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s (RCMP) Newfoundland and Labrador division. Both people were pronounced dead at the scene as the plane crashed shortly after the takeoff.

India’s Consulate in Toronto issued a statement in the aftermath of the incident that took place near an airport in Deer Lake, Newfoundland.

“With deep sorrow, we mourn the tragic passing of Mr. Gautam Santhosh, an Indian national, who lost his life in an accident involving a commercial survey aircraft near Deer Lake, Newfoundland,” officials wrote in an X post.

Extending heartfelt condolences to Santhosh’s family, the Consulate affirmed that were in touch with the bereaved family and Canadian local authorities to offer whatever assistance and support may be needed in the need of the hour.

What do we know about Indian national Gautam Santhosh?

The 27-year-old was one of the two victims of the Canada air tragedy this weekend. According to IANS, the Indian national hailed from Kerala. Before his demise, he was working with the Delta, Columbia-headquartered Kisik Aerial Survey Inc, which operated the Piper PA-31 Navajo aircraft.

Santhosh, the lone passenger of the “Piper Navajo twin-engine plane”, was a technical expert with the aerial survey company. Up to eight passengers can fly in the aircraft at once.
