Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has mocked US President Donald Trump after he tagged the idea of forming a third political faction, America Party, as “ridiculous” and a recipe for “confusion and chaos”. In his Truth Social post, he further said that Musk has “gone completely off the rails” and turned into a “train wreck” over the past five weeks.
Musk’s response comes after an X user shared a screenshot of Trump’s post on Truth Social with the caption, “Trump has just posted about Elon Musk on Truth Social.”
The tech mogul’s three-word reply to this has now gone viral on X (formerly Twitter). He simply asked, “What’s Truth Social?” He then responded to his own comment and added that he had never heard of the social media platform.
Never heard of it
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 6, 2025
This contradicts his earlier statement where he said that iOS app downloads for Truth Social have exceeded Twitter (now X) and TikTok as of late April this year.
Back in April 2022, Musk had mocked the platform’s branding, calling “Truth Social” a “terrible name” and joking that it should have been named “Trumpet” instead. At the time, he also acknowledged that the platform gained popularity largely due to what he described as censorship of free speech on X.
Elon Musk has become a “train wreck”: Trump
Trump, a few hours back, shared a “very long” post on Musk and went as far as calling him a “train wreck”. The post comes after he told reporters that third-party systems don’t work in the US and that Musk can have “fun” with it.
“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely “off the rails,” essentially becoming a train wreck over the past five weeks. He even wants to start a third political party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States. The system seems not designed for them. The one thing third parties are good for is the creation of complete and total disruption and chaos, and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats, who have lost their confidence and their minds!” he wrote on Truth Social.
Republicans just passed the Big, Beautiful Bill
Trump also mentioned that his party had passed the “great bill” which is “unfortunate” for Musk as it scraps the “ridiculous” EV mandate.
The US President added, “Republicans, on the other hand, are a smooth-running machine that just passed the biggest Bill of its kind in the History of our Country. It is a Great Bill but, unfortunately for Elon, it eliminates the ridiculous Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate, which would have forced everyone to buy an Electric Car in a short period of time.”
He also mentioned that he was “surprised” Musk gave him his “total and unquestioned” endorsement during his presidential campaign, especially given their clashing views on electric vehicle policy.
“When Elon gave me his total and unquestioned Endorsement, I asked him whether or not he knew that I was going to terminate the EV Mandate – It was in every speech I made, and in every conversation I had. He said he had no problems with that – I was very surprised!”
Trump also said that he has always “strongly opposed” the EV mandate as he believes that people should be allowed to “buy whatever they want” – be it gasoline-powered vehicles, hybrids or new technologies that are yet to come.
Elon’s friend, who runs NASA, is a blue-blooded Democrat
He also mentioned Musk’s “close friend” at NASA and called him “blue-blooded Democrat”, adding that his sole responsibility is to protect the “American Public”.
“Elon asked that one of his close friends run NASA, and while I thought his friend was very good, I was surprised to learn that he was a blue-blooded Democrat who had never contributed to a Republican before. Elon probably was, also. I also thought it inappropriate that a very close friend of Elon, who was in the Space Business, run NASA, when NASA is such a big part of Elon’s corporate life. My Number One charge is to protect the American Public!”
Musk’s America Party
Musk launched “America Party” in response to Trump’s tax cut and spending bill, which Musk claimed would “increase the debt by $5 trillion”.
The party, which challenges what Musk described as a “uniparty” system, was formed after 1.25 million users voted on his poll launched on July 4. As 65% of people supported the formation of a new political party, Musk wrote, “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party, and you shall have it!”
He further said, “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
