US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that US was “directly involved” during the conflict between India and Pakistan, claiming that US President Donald Trump helped bring peace between the two nuclear-armed nations. Rubio credited Trump’s focus on peace as key to easing tensions in the region.
Rubio was speaking while giving an interview to EWTN’s ‘The World Over’ on Thursday. “We saw when India and Pakistan went to war, we got involved directly, and the president was able to deliver on that peace,” Rubio said.
Trump reiterates his role in India-Pak conflict during Op Sindoor
Donald Trump has often said that he played an important role in stopping the conflict between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor in May 2025. India had launched the Operation in response to the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22. Trump has repeatedly claimed that he helped bring about a ceasefire by warning both countries that the US would stop trade with them if they didn’t end the fighting. He had earlier also said that he promised more trade deals as a reward if they chose peace.
However, India has said that the decision to stop hostilities with Pakistan was made after direct communication between their top military officers, the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs), and that no outside party was involved in this discussion.
Trump is ‘peace president’, says Rubio
Rubio also spoke about Trump’s efforts to end global conflicts. He mentioned other cases where he believed Trump helped bring peace, such as between Cambodia and Thailand, and between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He also cited progress in efforts to ease tensions between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, which is a decades-long conflict that has claimed millions of lives. Rubio called Trump the “president of peace”.
Rubio said the US is proud of these peace efforts and is working on resolving more conflicts, including the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
