A 27-year-old man named Shane Devon Tamura, hailing from Las Vegas, was identified as the suspected gunman who killed one NYPD officer and others in broad daylight in New York City on Monday. Latest updates on the case suggest that a total of six people, including the alleged sniper himself, died in the rampage.
The suspected shooter stormed Midtown Manhattan’s 345 Park Ave, the headquarters of the investment firm Blackstone and the NFL, and opened fire. According to CNN, Tamura’s choice of weapon had a silencer at the time of the shooting incident. He started firing inside the lobby, with approximately 30 people present at the scene.
Authorities have since released a surveillance photo of the man behind initial active shooter incident. He was spotted wearing sunglasses, and walking around with an assault rifle in his hand at around 6:30 pm (US time).
Preliminary updates from police revealed that the shooter had been “neutralised.” Police Commissioner Jessica S Tisch said on X, “At this time, the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralised.”
However, subsequent revelations from senior New York City officials’ side announced that the “lone shooter” took his own life after the incident. He is believed to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, as reports showed that his body was founded on the 33rd floor of the Manhattan building that became the site of his fatal rampage. The New York Post quoted sources about a vehicle with Nevada plates registered to Shane Tamura being found at the scene. The US outlet further stated that he was a security guard at a Las Vegas casino.
Definitely appears to be this same Shane Tamura involved in NYC shooting. NFL headquarters were located at that building and could be a possible motive. Tamura was a stand out RB that graduated in 2016. https://t.co/KCwA9LjDGJ pic.twitter.com/WqUo4O7gTt

What do we know about Shane D Tamura?
A photo reviewed by the US outlet indicated that Tamura had a concealed firearms permit from Las Vegas. Another snap also spotlighted the blood-stained AR-15 rifle the man used for his deranged undertaking in NYC. Police eventually recovered the massive weapon, which was also pictured in a chilling photo that reportedly showed an apparently dead Tamura lying on the ground.
An old interview with a local news outlet in the US further sheds light on Tamura’s presumed athletic background. He is said to have a standout running back at a California high school. A nearly decade old video from YouTube has resurfaced in light of the NYC tragedy. The video titled “Granada hills football,” now going viral on X, captures a young team member, believed to be Tamura speaking into the camera.
Looks like Shane Tamura target was the NFL in the building.

Shane Tamura’s football career – devoid of NFL
According to Sports Illustrated, the former high school football standout played for the Granada Hills Charter High School team during his senior year. Before transferring to the Los Angeles Unified School District institution, he was at Golden Valley High School in Santa Clarity Valley.
As a senior, Tamura was part of the Granada Hills football team that beat Kennedy High School 35-31 in a 2015 September victory. “Shane tamura 69-yard td jailbreak screen pass and granada hills leads kennedy 35-24 with 3:42 to go,” Los Angeles Daily News‘ Jack Pollon tweeted at the time. He played nine games back then, rushing for 616 yards on 126 carried and five touchdowns. He reportedly did not make it to the National Football League.
However, an unsettling situation unfolded on Monday evening, when he allegedly stormed the 44-story ‘Blackstone Building’ in Manhattan and opened fire on multiple victims before fatally shooting himself.
Although officials are still figuring out what pushed the suspected shooter to do what he did on Monday, netizens are already speculating that Tamura possibly targeted the NYC building that houses the NFL headquarters because he failed to make it to the professional league himself. While it remains unclear which office is hosted on the 33rd floor, a video has since emerged on social media, showing investment giant Blackstone’s staff pushing furniture to barricade the doors on the 32nd floor in an attempt to save themselves.
This is a breaking story. More Information will be added soon…
