Nearly a month after Indian motel manager Chandramouli Nagamallaiah was beheaded in Dallas, another man with roots tracing back to the South Asian country was reportedly killed in a US shooting last week. The victim has since been identified as 50-year-old Rakesh Ehagaban, as per CBS News.

According to the medical examiner’s office, the Indian-origin man died at the scene in the 4200 block of Steubenville Pike in Pittsburgh’s East Hills neighbourhood. The same incident also led to the injury of a woman, ABC’s local channel WTAE reported over the weekend.

Indian-origin motel manager Rakesh Ehagaban shot dead – What happened

According to the Allegheny County Police Department’s official release two days ago, investigators charged 38-year-old Stanley West in connection with the homicide investigation in Robinson Township, where the motel is located. Both County Police and Pittsburgh Police engaged in an “officer-involved shooting” while looking into the case on Friday (US time).

County 9-1-1 received a report of a shooting at the Pittsburgh Motel at 1:04 local time that day. A man, later ID’d as Rakesh Ehagaban, suffering from injuries was ultimately found dead.

As per Allegheny County Superintendent Christopher Kearns, the suspect shot his “female companion” following an argument in the parking lot. As a result, she reached out for help, attracting the motel manager’s attention to the development in the area. Ehagaban is then said to have come out to check what was happening, which is when he was shot and killed.

Reports have since also insisted that Ehagaban was shot dead after he asked West, “Are you alright, bud?” Relying on surveillance footage, officers said the suspected shooter walked up to the Indian-origin man, came within a feet of him and ultimately shot him in the head.

Lemel Howell, who is an employee at the establishment, eventually told KDKA-TV that he saw his boss lying on the ground after he had been shot. “I just came from the store and I laid down, I was playing with my daughter, and I just heard all these loud shots. I looked out the door and I seen my boss dead on the ground,” he said.

In a more recent update on the case, Allegheny County PD divulged the 38-year-old had been charged with criminal homicide, attempted homicide, and recklessly endangering another person. He remains in the hospital.
