Indian-American entrepreneur and community leader Sunny Reddy has emerged as a prominent figure in Michigan politics over the years.

His recent unanimous election as Co-Chair of the Michigan Republican Party (GOP) has marked a pivotal moment for the Indian diaspora in the mid-west. He became the first Indian-American Republican to hold such a position in Michigan.

Michigan Republican Party Chairman Jim Runestad, who introduced Reddy’s nomination, said he had “felt long and hard about who the co-chair should be,” praising Reddy for a rare combination of grassroots energy, donor outreach, and personal integrity, IANS reported.

Runestad noted that Reddy’s influence extends deeply into Michigan’s Indian American community.

“I couldn’t believe that we had an event. There were 600 people, all their families, coming up to take a picture of him. So he’s like the biggest celebrity in the entire Indian community,” Runestad said.

“[Reddy has] been in every part of the state of Michigan. He cares about every single part of the state,” he further said.

Who is Sunny Reddy?

Born in India, Reddy earned a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Wayne State University in 1994. According to his LinkedIn profile, he founded and currently leads VOIPOFFICE as CEO, driving innovation in telecommunications while building companies that create jobs and boost Michigan’s economy.

Philanthropy and community impact

Reddy has raised millions for COVID-19 relief, disaster response, and first responder families, often anonymously funding community needs. His quiet generosity and status as a “celebrity” in Michigan’s Indian diaspora underscore his integrity and broad appeal.

Reddy’s political career

Elected to the Wayne State University Board of Governors in November 2024 for an eight-year term starting January 2025, Reddy advanced through the Republican convention and general election.

Now as co-chair of the Michigan GOP, Reddy in his acceptance speech pledged tireless efforts to support President Donald Trump, raise resources, and build a unified Republican team amid key races for governor and US Senate.

Emphasising “unity, discipline, and determination,” he has positioned Michigan Republicans to counter Democrats in this battleground state.
