Former NFL star Antonio Brown has been extradited to the United States in connection an alleged Miami shooting incident earlier this year.

According to a police spokesperson cited by People, US Marshals Service took the American football player into custody in Dubai. He was eventually brought to Essex County Correctional Facility in New Jersey on Thursday (US time). The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers star is set to become the focus of an impending trial as he faces a charge of second-degree attempted murder with a firearm.

“Following a thorough investigation … Antonio Brown (AB) has been identified as the shooter,” the Miami Police Department told the US new outlet in a statement. “This is just another example of the relentless work and dedication of Miami Police Detectives, working closely with Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, and U.S. Marshals to identify and arrest those who commit crimes in the City of Miami.”

Miami shooting: Antonio Brown linked to alleged crime — All we know

Back in May, videos of an alleged shooting attempt broke cover on social media. The incident is said to have happened during a celebrity boxing event hosted by streamer Adin Ross. The May 17 clip put the focus on Brown allegedly facing off against several people at the centre of a violent and chaotic altercation.

Antonio was reportedly seen chasing after while holding something in his hands. Just seconds later, a loud bang, presumably the sound of gunshots, was heard. “Oh my god, he has a gun,” someone was heard saying before the alleged gunfire in a video capturing the fight on camera.

In the aftermath of the boxing incident, an arrest warrant was issued for Antonio in June. However, authorities believed that Brown was on international soil at the time, as per local US news outlet WPLG’s report.

It was also reported that the ex-NFL star ultimately hired an attorney after the issuing of the warrant. Subsequently, a bond of $10,000 was secured, in addition to orders for the player’s house arrest.

Despite the demand, Brown did not come back to South Florida, with police calling out pictures and videos he had posted from Dubai. In some of these posts, the former Buccaneers player is even believed to have joked about the charges he was facing.

Antonio Brown was not arrested in June: At the time, police said that while Brown was seen in handcuffs, he was not taken into custody on the scene because a victim could not be located. The June arrest warrant later stated that Brown was after a man named Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, who allegedly struck up a fight with the player.

Antonio eventually shared his account in a livestream broadcast hosted by Adin Ross, saying, he was “jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me.” He also claimed that authorities detained him temporarily, but were left with no choice but to release after they heard his side of the story.

Brown told Ross that he got CTE and blacked out during the incident. ” blacked out, Adin. I don’t know what happened,” he said on the stream.

In addition to addressing the case on Ross’ stream, he also spoke out about it in a May 17 social media post. “Regarding the boxing event that happened last night. I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me,” he said on X. “Contrary to some video circulating, Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED.”

This is a developing story.
