Sony has announced a price hike for PlayStation 5 in the US on Thursday amid continued uncertainty over tariffs. All three consoles will now see a $50 increase — with the most expensive PS5 Pro version expected to cost $749.99. The announcement came amid growing concern about supply chain disruptions and high material costs following the sweeping tariffs.

Sony shared a blog update outlining its decision on Wednesday evening — indicating that the updated prices would come into effect from the next day. The company cited its efforts to “navigate a challenging economic environment” to explain the decision.

What are the changed prices?

According to the blog update shared on the Play Station website, prices will rise by $50 for three PS5 consoles in the US. The company said that the recommended retail prices for PlayStation 5 accessories would remain unchanged. No other price changes were announced for additional markets.

PlayStation 5 – $549.99

PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99

PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99

Tariff uncertainty

The price changes come after US President Donald Trump announced sweeping tariffs on imports from global manufacturing hubs such as China and Japan, leading to fears of supply chain disruptions and high material costs.

Sony had raised prices of its consoles in various European markets in April. Rival Xbox also hiked sticker prices of its consoles and accessories in the U.S., Europe, Australia and the UK a month later.

Consoles were expected to be a major driver of videogame market growth this year due to the launch of premium titles such as Take-Two Interactive’s “Grand Theft Auto VI” and Nintendo’s Switch 2.

But console price hikes and the delay of highly-anticipated “GTA VI” to next year have cast some doubt on the pace of growth in the industry.
