As New York City gears up for its mayoral elections, tech mogul Elon Musk has raised concerns over the city’s ballot form. Musk posted on X, calling the ballot a “scam,” pointing out several issues he saw in it.

“The New York City ballot form is a scam! No ID is required, other mayoral candidates appear twice, Cuomo’s name is last in bottom right,” he stated on X sharing an image of the ballot paper.

Musk vs Mamdani

Earlier, Musk criticised Democrat Zohran Mamdani, one of the leading mayoral candidates, whose name reportedly appeared twice on the ballot. Musk, who has backed independent candidate Andrew Cuomo, warned voters about splitting the anti-Mamdani vote and took a jab at Mamdani by misspelling his name.

In the race, Mamdani is currently leading, with Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa as the other major contenders. Musk has expressed concerns about Mamdani’s policies.

Appearing on the Joe Rogan podcast, Musk said that if Mamdani’s policies were implemented, it would harm the quality of life for New Yorkers. Mamdani has promised to focus on lowering costs and improving life for residents. If elected, he said he would freeze rents for stabilised tenants and speed up affordable housing projects.

Musk said, “Mamdani is a charismatic swindler. I mean you gotta hand it to him, like, he can light up a stage, but he has just been a swindler his entire life.”

He added, “If Mamdani’s policies are put into place, especially at scale, it would be a catastrophic decline in living standards, not just for the rich, but for everyone. As has been the case with every socialist experiment.”

The New York City Board of Elections reported that 735,000 people voted early, a number four times higher than in the 2021 elections. President Trump urged New Yorkers to vote for Cuomo.

Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job.”

Musk has often shared his opinions on elections and voting methods. In the past, he praised India’s vote counting system for its speed, especially compared to the process in California.

He commented on X about India’s vote counting, “India counted 640 million votes in 1 day. California is still counting votes.”
