At least three people dead and 20 people have been injured in the shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The suspected gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and a large number of emergency services have been deployed to secure the area. Police responded to the scene at 509 W 54th Street, where an armed suspect reportedly opened fire with a rifle.
Initial reports indicate multiple victims, including fatalities, with the gunman reportedly armed with a rifle. A significant number of emergency responders have been dispatched as officers work to secure the area.
US president Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, “I have been fully briefed on the tragic shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The FBI quickly responded, and they are on the scene. The White House will continue to monitor this terrible situation. Please join me in praying for everyone involved!”
Attorney General Pam Bondi posted on X, “Our federal agents are on the scene of the horrific shooting at the Annunciation Catholic school in Minneapolis, Minnesota. My prayers are with everyone involved in this tragedy. Our team will provide updates as we receive them.”
The church was reportedly hosting preschool classes at the time of the attack. Several victims, including children, have been transported to nearby hospitals.
Governor Tim Walz wrote on X, “I’ve been briefed on a shooting at Annunciation Catholic School and will continue to provide updates as we get more information. The BCA and State Patrol are on scene. I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence.”
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) stated that she is “heartbroken” by the news. “I am heartbroken by the horrific violence at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis this morning,” Klobuchar wrote.“My prayers are with the students, teachers, and families, and I am grateful for the first responders who are on the scene.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem stated that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is closely monitoring the “horrific shooting” and is in communication with other relevant agencies. She stated that further updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
“I am praying for the victims of this heinous attack and their families,” Noem said.
Minnesota US Senator Amy Klobuchar expressed her heartbreak over the violence at the school this morning. “My prayers are with the students, teachers, and families, and I am grateful for the first responders who are on the scene,” she said.
