Billionaire businessman Elon Musk made waves on Thursday night after claiming that US President Donald Trump was named in the ‘Epstein files’. The remarks came amidst a public showdown between the former allies that soon devolved into oblique threats and accusations. A lawyer who has previously represented both Jeffrey Epstein and Donald Trump however insisted that the allegations were untrue.
“Time to drop the really big bomb: Donald Trump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT…Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out,” Musk wrote amidst the very-public war of words.
“I was hired to lead Jeffrey Epstein’s defense as his criminal lawyer 9 days before he died. He sought my advice for months before that. I can say authoritatively, unequivocally, and definitively that he had no information to hurt President Trump. I specifically asked him!” David Schoen retorted via X.
The infamous pedophile was convicted of sexual abuse against a minor in 2008 and faced similar accusations from dozens of underage girls. Federal prosecutors eventually charged Epstein with sex trafficking in 2019. He died by suicide in a Manhattan jail the same year while awaiting trial. The names of several powerful people including Trump, Prince Andrew and former US President Bill Clinton have surfaced in court document associated with his years of sexual abuse. It is however pertinent to note that being named in these documents is not synonymous with wrongdoing.
Trump has denied any association with Epstein and insisted ahead of his election in November that he would have “no problem” releasing files related to the disgraced financier.
“I was never on Epstein’s Plane, or at his ‘stupid’ Island. Strong Laws ought to be developed against A.I. It will be a big and very dangerous problem in the future,” he had claimed via social media.
