President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk came face-to-face at Charlie Kirk’s funeral on Sunday, months after their very public fallout. Inside Arizona’s State Farm Arena, where over 60,000 mourners gathered to honour the late conservative activist, Musk was spotted shaking hands with the president. The two exchanged a few words before Trump appeared to motion him away.

Moments after the reunion, Elon Musk posted a cryptic message on forgiveness and even reshared an old post from his interview, where he spoke about Jesus’ teachings.

Inside Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s conversation at Charlie Kirk’s funeral

Lip reader Nicola Hickling decoded the Musk-Trump conversation for the Daily Mail. Heckling said Trump greeted Musk with a casual, “How are you doing?” before adding, “So Elon, I’ve heard you wanted to chat.” Musk shrugged, while UFC chief Dana White leaned into the conversation. Trump then suggested, “Let’s try and work out how to get back on track.” Musk nodded, and the president ended by clasping his hand and saying, “I’ve missed you.”

The reunion came after Musk’s dramatic departure from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) earlier this year, a role specifically designed for Musk under Trump’s administration. The split turned ugly after Musk criticised Trump’s landmark “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” warning it could saddle taxpayers with billions in debt. Furious Trump, in response, branded Musk a “bulls*** artist” during the rallies and even suggested, “Maybe it’s time he went back to where he came from.”

The two have since engaged in a heated social media exchange, often throwing jabs at each other. Earlier, Musk briefly posted and then deleted claims that Trump’s name appeared in Epstein-related documents, even hinting at impeachment. The feud was one of the most bitter of Trump’s second term.

Yet on Sunday, the mood inside the stadium was different. Trump entered to chants of “USA! USA!” before taking his seat alongside his sons Eric and Don Jr., son-in-law Jared Kushner, and other close allies. Vice President J.D. Vance delivered an emotional tribute to Kirk, while Erika Kirk, the widow, vowed to continue her husband’s legacy.

Elon Musk shares cryptic post on forgiveness

Just hours after his meet-and-greet with Donald Trump, Musk, who had earlier condemned the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and said he was honoured to be part of the memorial service held on Sunday, posted a message on X about forgiveness, writing: “Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.”

It’s not clear whether Musk’s post was directed toward Trump or echoing the sentiments of Kirk’s widow, Erika, who said she had forgiven the shooter: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” She added, “I forgive him because it is what Christ did.”

Minutes later, Musk also reshared a clip from an earlier interview where he spoke about forgiveness and faith:  “I do believe that the teachings of Jesus are good and wise. There’s tremendous wisdom in ‘turn the other cheek.’ For a while, when I was hearing that, I thought, that’s really a weak thing. And with respect to bullies at school, I think you shouldn’t turn the other cheek. You should punch them on the nose and then thereafter make peace with them. But this notion of forgiveness is important. I think it’s essential, because if you don’t forgive, then an eye for an eye makes everyone blind.”

Clips from the memorial showed Musk sitting quietly before moving closer to Trump’s section, where their brief interaction caught everyone’s attention. The White House later posted a photo of the two men with the caption: “For Charlie.”
