Amid the heated debate on immigration in Donald Trump’s second term, far-right commentator Laura Loomer clashed with journalist Mehdi Hasan online, telling him to go back to the UK or to an “Islamic country” she claimed his parents came from.

Laura Loomer attacks Mehdi Hasan with racist remarks

The online spat began after Hasan reacted to a post about a fatal shootout involving a 40-year-old man, identified as a Mormon churchgoer, who reportedly had an AR-15 and two American flags in his truck. The incident came just days after the Charlie Kirk shooting, where the FBI, led by Kash Patel, claimed the suspect, also raised Mormon, had been influenced by the “Democratic agendas.” Reacting to the post, Hasan wrote, “An AR-15, an American flag, and a mass shooting. Nothing more American than that, I guess.”

In response to Hasan’s comment on the case, Loomer lashed out, posting, “You are a Muslim immigrant. You can go back to the UK and the Islamic countries your parents were born in at any time you want. Why are you even in the US if you hate it here? Just leave. I don’t get it. What will it take to make you leave? You hate our country.”

The former MSNBC host wasted no time in hitting back. He reminded Loomer of her factual error, replying, “India is where my parents were born, and it is not an ‘Islamic country’. You have the knowledge, intellect, and IQ of a very small (and angry) child.”

The exchange in no time caught attention online, with many pointing out how Loomer’s attack fit into a larger narrative of immigrant-bashing that has resurfaced under Trump’s tough immigration raids and crackdowns.

Laura Loomer’s history of racial attacks

Hasan shared a Rolling Stone report highlighting how Trump’s administration had stopped all visitor visas from Gaza, including humanitarian and medical ones. He wrote, “Imagine how soulless and sociopathic you have to be to see children getting healthcare and going out of your way to prevent them from getting it. The modern pro-Israel, Trumpist conservative movement.”

Minutes later, Loomer posted a video of children arriving in San Francisco for treatment and wrote, “Why are any Islamic invaders coming into the US under the Trump admin? This is a national security threat. We didn’t vote for more Islamic immigration into the United States.” She also claimed, “It’s amazing how fast we can get results from the Trump administration,” referring to the visa freeze, though the post has since been deleted.

Loomer has been a vocal supporter of Trump’s ongoing ICE raids targeting immigrants, often making racial remarks online that have sparked public backlash. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has implemented stricter measures affecting immigration to the United States. This includes imposing substantial fees on H-1B visas, which are designed to facilitate skilled workers’ employment in the country. Over the past eight months, the administration has introduced a series of policies, which Trump characterises as efforts to “clean up America” and address illegal immigration.
