The dramatic feud between Elon Musk and Donald Trump a fresh turn on Saturday with the billionaire businessman deleting an accusatory social media post that linked the US President to the ‘Epstein files’. Posts calling for the creation of a new political party in America and others taking a swipe at his former ally however remain on the microblogging platform. The bitter divorce between two of the world’s most powerful men came less than a week after Musk officially left his position spearheading the quasi-official Department of Government Efficiency.

“Time to drop the really big bomb: Donald Trump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT…Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out,” Musk had written amidst their very-public war of words.

The post was later deleted without any additional explanation — mere hours after Musk called for the formation of a new political party in America. He had initiated a poll on X earlier this week and reiterated the need for a group that “actually represents the 80% in the middle”. A later post insisted that this new (and so far unformed) group would be called The America Party.

“The people have spoken. A new political party is needed in America to represent the 80% in the middle! And exactly 80% of people agree. This is fate,” he wrote on X.

The  infamous pedophile was convicted of sexual abuse against a minor in 2008 and faced similar accusations from dozens of underage girls. Federal prosecutors eventually charged Epstein with sex trafficking in 2019. He died by suicide in a Manhattan jail the same year while awaiting trial. The names of several powerful people including Trump, Prince Andrew and former US President Bill Clinton have surfaced in court document associated with his years of sexual abuse. It is however pertinent to note that being named in these documents is not synonymous with wrongdoing.

Trump has denied any association with Epstein and insisted ahead of his election in November that he would have “no problem” releasing files related to the disgraced financier.

“I was never on Epstein’s plane, or at his ‘stupid’ island. Strong laws ought to be developed against AI. It will be a big and very dangerous problem in the future,” he had claimed via social media.
