An alleged active shooter opened fire on multiple deputies in Virginia, US, on Wednesday, according to US reports. The incident is believed to have left at least two people injured. Following the reported shooting, emergency teams’ radio chatter suggested that officials had huddled up at a home near Pittsvile in Pittsylvania County.
As further reported by the Daily Mail, the suspected shooter is said to have subsequently holed themselves up at home. Officials eventually also resorted to using loudspeakers, urging an individual to step outside. Additionally, Virginia State Police officers told WSET that they had been trying to serve warrants at the given address. However, things “went south.”
Local news outlets like CNBC-affiliated WSLS.com (10 News) shed more light on the developments, sharing that multiple law enforcement agencies, including Virginia State Police, Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, and the Hurt Volunteer Fire Department, and a helicopter were at the scene near Gretna on August 13 (US time) evening.
Although merely preliminary details are available at this time, ABC13 appeared to confirm that one deputy was injured in the aftermath of the incident at hand. Severity of the injuries have yet to be revealed.
As of now, Congressman John McGuire has shared that two deputies had been shot during the incident. He extended his thoughts and prayers to the officers involved and their families.
