President Donald Trump has raised immediate concerns about the world being on the brink of World War III, but assured that such a conflict would be avoided under his leadership. Speaking at the Future Investment Initiative Institute Priority Summit in Miami, Trump argued that had President Joe Biden been in office for another year, global conflict would likely already have been triggered.
“I’m acting swiftly to resolve conflicts worldwide and bring peace back to the planet,” Trump said during his remarks. “I want peace, and I refuse to stand by as millions of lives are lost needlessly.”
Trump highlighted the ongoing wars in the Middle East and the Russia-Ukraine conflict as evidence that the world is dangerously close to a catastrophic war. “Look at the death and destruction in the Middle East, and the continuing bloodshed in Ukraine,” he continued. “We’re working to bring these conflicts to an end. There’s no gain in pushing the world to the brink of World War III. If Biden had remained in power for just another year, it would have already happened. But under my leadership, I’ll make sure that doesn’t occur.”
These remarks come amid escalating tensions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whom Trump had recently criticized for his leadership during the war. Trump called Zelensky a ‘dictator without elections’ and questioned his ability to lead Ukraine, even calling him a ‘comedian who’s had modest success.’ He further urged Zelensky to act swiftly or risk losing control of his country.
The war of words between Trump and Zelensky intensified as the Ukrainian president accused the former US president of promoting Russian propaganda, claiming that Trump’s stance was helping Russia isolate Ukraine internationally. In response, Trump said, “Zelensky’s actions have been disastrous. His country is in ruins, and countless lives have been lost unnecessarily.”
Despite the tension, Trump remained firm in his belief that dialogue with both sides is crucial to ending the war. “You can’t resolve a conflict if you’re not willing to engage with both parties involved,” he said. Trump expressed hope for a ceasefire soon, which he believes would help restore stability to both Europe and the Middle East.
Trump also commended Saudi Arabia for its efforts to facilitate talks between the US and Russia over the Ukraine war, calling these discussions an important step toward de-escalation.
Reaffirming his commitment to global diplomacy, Trump stressed that his approach to foreign policy would prioritize negotiation and conflict resolution, rather than military intervention. He continues to advocate for peace and stability, viewing them as essential for the future.
