US President Donald Trump has revealed that he wants to give money and flight tickets to the illegal immigrants who have chosen to self-deport, reported AP. Trump further added that he wants to get the people back to the US who have been “good”.
Trump, who had pledged to mass deport the immigrants staying illegally in the US, told Fox Noticias in a taped interview that his administration is more focussed on getting the “murderers” out of the country. He added that he wll introduce a “self-deportation programme” for others staying in the US illegally.
Trump revealed a few details about the plan including the timing of implementation and said that he plans to give the individuals a stipend, some money, and a plane ticket. He said that if those individuals are considered suitable, efforts will be made to bring them back quickly.
During an interview with Fox Noticias, host Rachel Campos-Duffy, who is married to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, showed Donald Trump a video of a Mexican man who reportedly entered the US illegally over 20 years ago and now has children who are American citizens, AP report said. While it’s unclear if the man currently has legal status, Campos-Duffy noted that he expressed support for Trump despite not being able to vote. In the clip, the man said he believes anyone who commits a crime — including himself — should be sent back to their home country.
Trump responded by saying the man seemed like someone worth keeping in the country and added that he didn’t appear to be facing deportation. He said he didn’t think the man was in any real danger of being removed.
Trump also talked about helping businesses like hotels and farms find the workers they need. He said he wants people who are in the US without legal status to return to their home countries and re-enter legally. However, he did not give details on how this would happen. He described the idea as a form of “self-deportation” that would be made comfortable, with support offered to help people come back legally. The interview was recorded on Monday.
