After turning down the position of DOGE co-chief alongside Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy has now officially announced his candidacy for Governor of Ohio. With strong backing from US Vice President JD Vance, he has received widespread praise from former President Donald Trump.

Trump took to Truth Social to offer his “complete and total endorsement” of Ramaswamy, describing him as “something special.” Sharing Trump’s post on X, Ramaswamy responded: “Thank you, President Trump. I’m truly honored to have your endorsement. We’re behind you all the way & we will Make Ohio Great Again!”

Ramaswamy’s political shift

Ahead of his gubernatorial campaign announcement for the 2026 Ohio elections, Ramaswamy stepped down from Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency in January. A lifelong Ohio resident and an entrepreneur, the Indian-American Republican has emphasized cutting red tape and reducing regulations as key pillars of his campaign. Speaking at a rally in Cincinnati, he outlined his vision for economic growth and conservative governance.

Trump’s endorsement sparked mixed reactions online. While many MAGA supporters praised his choice, critics questioned Trump’s credibility, pointing out his previous endorsements of Byron Donalds and Randy Fine for Florida. Some Ohio residents also raised concerns about family and community values under Ramaswamy’s leadership.

Strengthening Indo-US political ties

Ramaswamy’s rising influence highlights the growing role of Indian-Americans in U.S. politics. His campaign not only reinforces Trump’s trust in him but also signals the deepening political engagement of the Indian diaspora in American leadership. As he positions himself for Ohio’s governorship, his run symbolizes a bridge between his Indian heritage and conservative American ideals.
