India expressed gratitude to Iran on Wednesday for the safe rescue of three Indian nationals who went missing in the country last month. The Ministry of External Affairs lauded Tehran’s swift and effective efforts, stating that their support reflects the “true spirit of friendship” between the two nations.
The three Indian citizens were “freed in a police operation against the hostage takers in Varamin in south Tehran,” the Tehran-based Tasnim news agency reported on Tuesday.
Iran’s effort
Confirming the successful rescue, the Embassy of India in Iran posted on X, “The 3 kidnapped Indian citizens have been safely rescued & are now under the care of the Embassy of India, which is facilitating their early repatriation.” The embassy further added, “We sincerely thank the Government of Iran for their swift and effective efforts in securing their release. Your support reflects the true spirit of friendship between our two nations.”
The Iranian Embassy in New Delhi also confirmed the recovery of the Indian nationals on Tuesday, stating in a post on X, “Three missing Indian citizens freed by Tehran police.”
Last week, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed being in touch with Iranian authorities regarding the missing individuals.
Three Individuals
The families of the three men, identified as Amritpal, Husanpreet Singh, and Jaspal Singh, all hailing from Punjab, had claimed that their loved ones had left for Australia with the promise of jobs by travel agents. However, they found themselves in Iran and were subsequently “kidnapped” there, according to their families. The successful rescue brings an end to a period of anxiety for their families and highlights the strong bilateral cooperation between India and Iran.
