A video of a man getting beaten up on a street in Ireland has surfaced on the internet. The clip apparently shows an Indian man getting punched in the face while he is trying to reason with a gang. A person making the video can be heard abusing the man and asking him to “go back”. The men can also be heard saying “we are catholics” in the video.

The authenticity of the video cannot be independently verified by Financialexpress.com. However, the incidents of racist attacks on Indians living in Ireland have increased in the past month.

India releases advisory for citizens in Ireland

The Indian embassy in Ireland last week issued an advisory following the surge in hate crime incidents. “There has been an increase in the instances of physical attacks reported against Indian citizens in Ireland recently,” stated the advisory. “The embassy is in touch with the authorities concerned in Ireland in this regard. At the same time, all Indian citizens in Ireland are advised to take reasonable precautions for their personal security and avoid deserted areas, especially at odd hours,” the statement read, adding emergency embassy contact details as 0899423734 and cons.dublin@mea.gov.in.

Recent hate crime incident in Dublin

An Indian-origin taxi driver was the latest target of hate crime attacks in Ireland. The taxi driver, who has been living in Ireland for over 23 years, was allegedly hit on the head by a bottle by two young men after he dropped them at their destination on Friday night. The 40-year-old driver Lakhvir Singh was struck twice on the head with a bottle and the suspects reportedly shouted “go back to your own country” while fleeing the scene.

“In 10 years I’ve never seen anything like this happen,” Singh told local media. “I’m really scared now and I’m off the road at the moment. It will be very hard to go back. My children are really scared,” he added.

The Dublin police have launched an investigation in the matter. In the last three weeks, at least five incidents of hate crime against Indians living in Ireland have come to the fore.
