Britain’s Prince William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have reiterated their appeal for privacy after Catherine revealed she is undergoing “preventative chemotherapy” for an undisclosed form of cancer.

In a statement issued by Kensington Palace, the royal couple expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support received from the UK, Commonwealth, and worldwide.

The Duke and Duchess conveyed their appreciation for the overwhelming warmth and support they have received during this challenging time. They reiterated Catherine’s request for privacy as she focuses on her treatment and recovery alongside their three children – Princes George and Louis, and Princess Charlotte.

A spokesperson for Kensington Palace conveyed the couple’s gratitude for the understanding of their need for privacy. This statement comes following Catherine’s emotional video message disclosing her cancer diagnosis and treatment journey.

Catherine shared that tests following a planned abdominal surgery in January revealed the presence of cancer, prompting her medical team to recommend “preventative chemotherapy”. She emphasized the importance of taking time to explain the situation to her children and reassure them of her well-being.

“Tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” revealed the senior royal and future Queen.

“It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok. As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits,” said Kate.

The royal family has been inundated with messages of support and well-wishes since Catherine’s announcement. The public response has been overwhelmingly sympathetic, with social media discussions shifting to expressions of admiration for her courage and resilience.

Catherine’s statement comes after weeks of speculation surrounding her absence from official engagements since December and the subsequent confusion caused by a family photograph released in March.

King Charles III, who was also diagnosed with cancer in February, is said to be “proud” of his “beloved” daughter-in-law for her “courage” in speaking about her treatment. The 75-year-old monarch has also been off public-facing duties while he undergoes treatment.
