In Pakistan’s Swat, in a surprising incident, a mob allegedly tortured a man to death by burning him alive over the alleged desecration of the Holy Quran.

After the incident, cops have arrested 27 suspects including two brothers, ARY News reported on Sunday.

On June 20, the shocking incident occurred in Madyan (a town in the Swat district).

According to Swat District Police Officer (DPO) Zahidullah Khan, the cops had moved the suspect of the alleged desecration incident to the police station but a charged mob “attacked the police station and took the suspect away”.

The mob set fire to the police station and a mobile vehicle, he said, and added that the suspect was “torched”.

On social media, videos of the incident went viral. In Madyan, a heavy police force was deployed after the incident, DPO Khan said.

Also, the cops are conducting raids for more arrests in the Madyan incident.

As per Dawn, between 1987 and 2022, at least 2,120 people are reported to have been accused of committing blasphemy.

Last month, police saved a Christian man from angered individuals in Sargodha on allegations of desecration of the Holy Quran. The person died nine days later due to his wounds.
