At Adiala Jail on Tuesday, a 12-member forensic team arrived to conduct a polygraph test on Pakistan’s ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan in connection with unprecedented violence in the country in 2023, according to a media report.
Across the country, the May 9 riots were triggered after Khan (71) was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a 190-million-pound corruption case. The former cricketer-turned-politician faces over 200 cases and has been in prison since August 2023.
To conduct the tests, the Lahore police team, led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police arrived at the jail premises, the Express Tribune reported.
The cops were accompanied by experts from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA), said the report. On the ex-PM, the PFSA experts will perform polygraph, voice matching, and photogrammetry tests.
The cops will also question the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party founder about various aspects of the May 9 incident during the examination.
The PTI workers and supporters, during the May 9 protests, allegedly attacked and vandalised military installations including the General Headquarters as well as monuments.
Pakistan authorities swung into action and initiated a massive crackdown against the party.
Ex-PM rejected giving orders for vandalising state properties. However, he did acknowledge that he had asked his party to stage a peaceful protest outside the GHQ in case of his detention.
