A gunman opened fire at 345 Park Avenue in Manhattan, a high-rise that houses the global headquarters of Blackstone Inc. and the National Football League, killing at least five people, according to media reports.

The suspected gunman is dead, according to three officials. Among the victims is at least one police officer, and two other people were also killed in the tower.

The Fire Department of New York said emergency crews were called to the Park Avenue building at around 6:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting. Officials have not yet released further details.

Office workers evacuated with hands raised

Local television footage showed employees being evacuated from the building with their hands in the air. The building is home to high-profile offices including Blackstone, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan, and the Consulate General of Ireland.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed on social media that agents were assisting at what he described as an “active crime scene.” New York City Mayor Eric Adams also posted about the “active shooter investigation” and urged people in the area to stay indoors and remain cautious.

Public transit disrupted, roads closed

The city’s emergency management system warned of traffic delays, road closures, and disruptions to public transportation around the midtown area due to the ongoing police activity.
