As tensions between Israel and Iran escalated with deadly exchanges of missile fire, US President Donald Trump on Sunday claimed that peace between the two nations was imminent. Posting on Truth Social, Trump said, “We will have peace soon between Israel and Iran! Many calls and meetings are now taking place.”

Trump asserted that backchannel negotiations were ongoing and urged both countries to “make a deal”. Drawing a comparison to his claimed mediation between India and Pakistan during their conflict in May, Trump added, “Just like I got India and Pakistan to make [a deal]… by using trade with the United States to bring reason, cohesion and sanity into the talks.”

The President further said, “I do a lot, and never get credit for anything, but that’s OK, the people understand. MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!”

Overnight into Sunday, Israel and Iran launched fresh attacks on each other for a third consecutive day, resulting in heavy casualties and widespread destruction. Israel reportedly targeted Iran’s Defense Ministry headquarters in Tehran and several sites alleged to be tied to Iran’s nuclear program. In retaliation, Iranian missiles hit civilian and infrastructure targets deep inside Israeli territory.

Israel’s Magen David Adom rescue service confirmed at least 10 deaths from the latest Iranian strikes, raising the national death toll to 13. Iran’s UN ambassador had earlier reported 78 fatalities and over 320 wounded in Iranian territory, although updated figures remain unavailable.

As the conflict intensifies, Israel has warned of further escalation. The country’s main international airport and airspace remained closed for a third day.
