In his first public message since being diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, former US President Joe Biden expressed heartfelt gratitude to supporters for their outpouring of love and encouragement.
“Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places,” Biden wrote on X. Accompanying the message was a smiling photo of Biden with his wife, Jill and their cat.

The announcement of Biden’s diagnosis came on May 18 from a spokesperson, who revealed that the 82-year-old former president was diagnosed on May 16 after experiencing urinary symptoms. A “nodule” was discovered on his prostate and the cancer has since spread to his bones, the statement added.
Biden, who served as the 46th president from 2021 to 2025, stepped away from the 2024 presidential race amid growing concerns about his age and health. His recent diagnosis has triggered a wave of bipartisan support and well-wishes from leaders across the globe.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted, “Deeply concerned to hear about Joe Biden’s health. Extend our best wishes to him for a quick and full recovery.”
President Donald Trump, Biden’s long-time political rival, took to Truth Social to share his message. “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery,” he wrote.
Former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Kamala Harris also offered their support. Harris, writing on X, said, “Doug and I are saddened to learn of President Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis. We are keeping him, Dr Biden, and their entire family in our hearts and prayers during this time.” She added, “Joe is a fighter — and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership.”
