Amid swirling chatter about US Vice President JD Vance‘s potential India visit this month, similar claims were floated in connection with the United States National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. Contrary to initial reports, Waltz’s trip to the South-east Asian country has now been declared unlikely.

Official word regarding Vance and Waltz’s visits has yet to make headlines. As of now, reports from The Wire and TOI suggest that the American national security advisor who was expected to meet his Indian counterpart, Ajit Doval, won’t be travelling to the country. Preliminary noise around his purported India trip plans stated that he was to participate in the India-US Forum beginning on April 21.

A source said Mike Waltz’s visit has been “postponed,” as quoted by TOI.

The India-US Forum is being jointly hosted by the Ananta Centre and India’s Ministry of External Affairs. Waltz’s political position has been under heavy scrutiny since the “Signalgate” controversy, the Financial Times reported last week. Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance’s India trip is expected to proceed as reported. His four-day visit will begin on April 21.

The upcoming forum is going to be a consequential intervention amid ongoing trade talks between the United States and India. It comes after President Donald Trump temporarily paused the sweeping tariff policy for 90 days. A bilateral trade agreement between the countries will particularly be in focus with Vance’s trip.

Organisers of the Forum described it as a “platform for both American and Indian leaders from across the spectrum to shape the future of India-US strategic partnership.”
