External Affairs Minister of India, Dr S Jaishankar, held talks with the Vice President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, where they discussed the dastardly terror attack in the Valley, which killed 26 people. The discussion between EAM Jaishankar and EU HRVP took place over a call.

“Good to speak with EU HRVP Kaja Kallas this evening,” wrote Jaishankar on X (formerly known as Twitter).

He added, “Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Welcome, European Union’s strong condemnation of terrorism in all forms and manifestations.”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also expressed sorrow over the loss of innocent lives in the Pahalgam terror attack. “Secretary Marco Rubio spoke with Indian External Affairs Minister Subhramanyam Jaishankar today. The Secretary expressed his sorrow for the lives lost in the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, and reaffirmed the United States’s commitment to cooperation with India against terrorism,” a statement read.

It added, “He also encouraged India to work with Pakistan to de-escalate tensions and maintain peace and security in South Asia.”

Jaishankar wrote on X, “Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack with US Marco Rubio yesterday. Its perpetrators, backers and planners must be brought to justice.”

Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance had reacted to the Pahalgam attack. He was on a visit to India with his family when the attack took place. “Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack.”

When asked about his views on India and Pakistan, he recently said, “I am worried about any time you see a hot spot breaking out, especially between the two nuclear powers. We’ve obviously been in close contact with our friends in India and Pakistan. Our hope here is that India responds to this terrorist attack in a way that doesn’t lead to a broader regional conflict.”

“We hope, frankly, that Pakistan, to the extent that they’re responsible, cooperates with India to make sure that the terrorists sometimes operating in their territory are hunted down and dealt with. That’s how, we hope, this unfolds. We’re obviously in close contact. We’ll see what happens.”
