Israel was not involved in the murder of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of several members of his entourage, an Israeli official told Reuters.

Following a helicopter crash on Sunday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian have been ruled deceased. Vice President Mansouri verified the information on his X (formerly Twitter) social media account.

The official Iranian media said on Monday morning that the chopper was found to have completely destroyed, implying that no one had survived the event. Raisi’s helicopter is said to have made a “hard landing” on Sunday. The incident took place in the East Azerbaijan region of Iran; it was first reported 600 kilometres northwest of Tehran, close to the border city of Jolfa, Azerbaijan.
