As the US stock markets continue to reel—down for the second consecutive day—President Donald Trump reposted a video which read “Trump is purposely CRASHING the market.”
‘Chess move’ behind the crash?
According to the video, Trump is deliberately triggering market volatility. The theory suggests that Trump’s aggressive tariffs are designed to push investment into US Treasuries, forcing the Fed’s hand to slash interest rates in May. Lower interest rates would not only allow the government to refinance its mounting debt more affordably but also weaken the dollar, boost exports, and drop mortgage rates.
Warren Buffett, a longtime market sage, reportedly praised Trump’s strategy, calling it “the best economic moves” in over 50 years, according to viral posts. According to the video, the tariff move was a genius play—forcing companies to manufacture in the US and incentivising domestic agriculture. “You’ve already seen that with eggs,” one user noted.
Trump took to his Truth Social platform on Friday with a bold demand: Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell must cut interest rates immediately. Calling it a “PERFECT time,” Trump argued that falling energy prices, declining inflation, and rising job numbers present an ideal environment for the Fed to act swiftly. “CUT INTEREST RATES, JEROME, AND STOP PLAYING POLITICS!” he wrote, highlighting that even egg prices have dropped 69% in two months.
Powell warns of difficult road ahead
However, Fed Chair Jerome Powell struck a more cautious tone, noting that Trump’s tariffs are “larger than expected” and could trigger both higher inflation and slower growth. “We face a highly uncertain outlook,” Powell said Friday, as markets continued to dip following his comments.
Social media reacts
Trump’s Truth Social video went viral on X, sparking a flurry of online reactions. “Because Buffett holds a lot of cash, he wants this correction,” one user said. Another wrote, “Of course Buffett’s fine with this move. Lower equity prices give him more of an advantage.” Yet others were skeptical, calling Trump’s claims “one lie after another,” with one user noting, “Egg prices are only down because chicken supply is recovering.”
Eggs are only coming down because the laying chickens are slowly being replenished.

One lie after another in that video.
