Due to a medical emergency, an Iraqi Airways flight from Baghdad to Guangzhou in China made a landing in Kolkata. A passenger onboard had suddenly fallen ill inside the aircraft, the officials revealed today.
A 16-year-old Iraqi girl was declared “brought dead” when she was taken to hospital in the city. The flight IA-473, carrying 100 passengers and 15 crew members, diverted from its original course and landed at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at 10:18 pm on Wednesday.
An Airports Authority of India (AAI) spokesperson stated that a medical team at the airport promptly attended to the passenger, Deran Samir Ahmed. The Iraqi teenager had suddenly fallen ill onboard about 30 minutes before the aircraft landed.
The Airport Health Officer (APHO) examined the passenger and found no pulse or heartbeat. The doctor referred the passenger to the nearest hospital for further evaluation. At around 1:18 am on Thursday, the teenager and her two co-passengers were offloaded after completing formalities and transported to a private hospital by an AAI ambulance.
According to the hospital, the passenger was declared brought dead. The girl was a resident of the Sar Chinar police station area in Baghdad, Iraq, the AAI official noted.
The flight departed for its destination with the remaining passengers at 1:49 am on Thursday.
